A wildcard character is either of the characters ? or *
when used in a filename or an extension.

 ? stands for "any single character in this position"

 * stands for "any sequence of characters" in a
   filename or extension.

A wildcard filespec is any file identifier containing
one or more wildcard characters in the filename and/or
extension.
